Anyone know why my photo of Jen "Japanese" F ended up posted here?
Not that I'm complaining, mind you. My photos have a Creative Commons license, and I generally enjoy seeing them used—and Lord knows Jen deserves the attention (she's like four kinds of amazing)... but I'm not sure I see the connection to the story. Am I missing something obvious? |

Well, I was supposed to spend the evening with four gorgeous figure competitors, but the plans fell through. So sad! |

| New pics are up! |
[Jun. 25th, 2008|11:44 pm] |
My photos from the 2008 Heart of America National Classic and the 2008 NPC Junior Nationals are now up. Theses two were probably the most fun I've had at any shows yet, and I'm hoping to post details soon.
But this news couldn't wait: see this image of the lovely (and amazingly bedeckd) Amanda Quinlan? Well, Ms. Quinlan herself just set the photo as her myspace profile pic! OMG OMG OMG. I think my head just exploded!!!
ETA: Amanda chimes in with a comment on my MySpace page:I love this picture!!! Thanks for taking it and sending it to me!!! You are AWESOME!!! I think you can guess how unhappy this makes me.

| A special face |
[Mar. 21st, 2008|08:45 pm] |
Yesterday my girlfriend and I were out shopping at Bebe Sport (if anyone was wondering, it's more stylish than functional. Surprise!). She was talking to me, or rather talking at me in her usual manner, about the various articles of clothing, not really caring if I was listening or not.
While this was going on, I looked over her shoulder just in time to see one of the employees (whom I had not previously seen) coming out of the back room. She was very attractive, wore a tank top, and most importantly had beautiful arms.
Suddenly my girlfriend stopped talking, looked at me, and said irritably "What, did you see someone's arms?"
"What?" I asked, certain I couldn't have heard her right.
"Did you see someone's arms?!"
"Um... yes," I confessed, "How did you know?"
"I could tell by your face."
"You mean to tell me I have a special face for 'arms', as opposed to all other features?"
"Yes, apparently, because I could immediately tell what happened."
I confess that I really wanted to hug her for knowing me so well. But since then I've been getting worried: when I go to shows do I walk around with a "special" look on my face? How embarrassing! |

| Update |
[Dec. 8th, 2007|02:20 pm] |
Just got back from the Mid-West Iron Man '07 prejudging. I can't make it for the evening show, unfortunately (I loved it last year), but I did get some good pictures while I was there. It's becoming increasingly obvious to me that I need to print "business cards." I'm an amateur, and have no ambitions to go pro, but it's embarrassing when someone asks me why I want their photo, and all I can do is mumble some vague words about some website called flickr. Furthermore, if I have the URL for my photostream printed on the card, they can always come get their photos themselves, without necessarily having to divulge their email address to me.
... of course for that to work, I really need to get (and stay) up to date. I have a backlog of about a year now, and I've been meaning to fix that forever. But now that Anthony Miller has started posting words of encouragement, I think I may finally have been persuaded to get back to work! ;)
Jennifer Cowan was of course at the show today, and she's starting a new fitness t-shirt company called "Muscles&Curves." Ms. Cowan is not only a really amazing competitor and an all-around gorgeous woman, but she's also one of the nicest people I've met at these shows. If anyone deserves success it's her, so as soon as she gets her business website up and running, I will be sure to post a link.
And last, but not least, Stacey Widger. There was a time when I worried I was posting about her too much, but I haven't mentioned here since, gosh, 2005! Even after I stopped using this blog with any frequency, Stacey and I continued to stay in touch via flickr, but a while ago she deleted her account and fell off my radar. More recently, it started to hit me how long it had been since I'd heard from her, so I went and checked her blog. Oh... my... God. Um... I guess given her amazing progress back in the day, and given how long it's been since I last checked, I shouldn't be shocked at her development, but those pics nearly killed me. Way to go, Stacey! |

I've uploaded my pics from last night (hallway only. I'll add stage later). I know I have a huge backlog, but Jr. Nats always take priority. Unfortunately these came out really dark, and I didn't even notice till I uploaded them. Oh well.
NPC Jr. Nationals 2007
Keep an eye on that set, as it will be expanding. |

| NPC Illinois State '07 |
[May. 20th, 2007|03:08 am] |
Wow, just did the NPC Illinois State. Had a blast. It was held at the Gateway Theater, where last December's Mid-West Ironman was also held, and I got to see a lot of my favorites from that show again, including Kim Curry (contestant—just saw her as a spectator at the Grand Prix Natural though), Paige Fullhart-Roti (contestant last time, spectator this time), Anita Nikolich (spectator), and Jennifer Lynn Cowan (booth babe every time I've seen her, this time also actually competing!)
Ms. Cowan now recognizes me, and was really incredibly nice, and quite helpful as well. She was the first competitor in the women's bodybuilding part of the show, and OMG was she amazing, both in terms of her physique and her posing skills (and I'm not just saying this because she knows who I am ;) ). I suppose this shouldn't shock me: as far as the physique is concerned, I've seen plenty of pics of her on-season (though never as a bodybuilder), and off-season in person was impressive enough, and as for posing, at the Ironman I kept spotting her giving posing tips to the competitors. In any case, once she got on the stage, she totally blew me away. Within 5 seconds I was saying "Oh my God, she's totally going to win this!" ANd she did. Not only the mid-weight divison, but "most symmetrical" and the overall as well. What an amazing woman.
People complain a lot about the Gateway Theater, and not without cause: it's a bit tight, and the bathrooms are especially a problem. But both shows I've been to there so far have been fantastic. |

| Haute Tension (High Tension) 2003 |
[Mar. 31st, 2007|06:18 pm] |
I just got back from the NPC Mid-Illinois. Had a great time, but couldn't do the evening session. Accurate information on where and when the contest would be held was difficult to get: there were contradictory reports floating around online in official-looking sources. In any case, expect a flickr update soon (I think I can get it done pretty fast this time, for once. I've got several contests on my queue still waiting to be uploaded. Argh!)
In other news, I recently saw the movie Haute Tension/High Tension/Switchblade Romance (trailer). Gruesome as all hell, and its twist ending pisses off a lot of viewers outright. But OH MY GOD was Cécile de France hot as the protagonist. She looks really mesomorphic, downright brawny. Built... well, like my girlfriend ;) I generally loathe horor, but man did I love watching her. There are a number of interviews around online where she talks about her training. Thai kickboxing!

| NPC dreams |
[Jun. 17th, 2006|11:43 am] |
Having spent yesterday evening at the NPC's I was dreaming about them all night. For some reason I kept dreaming about Melisssa Dettwiller. This is odd for a couple reasons:- Thus far I haven't seen her there this year (I did last year though)
- I've dreamt about her before
- While I do find Ms. Dettwiller very attractive, I don't know why she in particular should frequent my dreams.
I confess, that the most likely reason that I've dreamt about her more than once is that I just reread my blog entry about the last dream, right before I went to sleep. I guess that's cheating.
I haven't headed out to the Nationals yet for day two, but I will soon. |

| Nationals, day 1 |
[Jun. 17th, 2006|03:03 am] |
I had a great time. I will report more when I get a chance. I've also started organizing my photos for upload to flickr. Now, flickr allows for 20 mb per month, if you have a free account. Weeding out the uninteresting photos, and cropping the few shots of the stage that I took, I can get it down to about 35 megs. This doesnt' sound that bad (upload some now, the rest in a couple weeks), except that I will probably be returning tomorrow for day two, there's the Chicago Fitness Extravaganza in a week, and I still haven't uploaded the rest of my Muscle Beach shots.
This is terrible! Unless you enjoy my pictures, then it's great ;) |

| Flickr uploads |
[May. 31st, 2006|11:23 pm] |
So, earlier this month I was lucky enough to visit an event at Muscle Beach. I took an absurd number of photos, intending to blog the event and put the pics up at flickr. Well, I haven't gotten around to writing it up yet, but I realized that the month ends tonight. Since flickr works on a monthly quota system, it made sense to upload as many pics as I could before midnight.
I have now filled my quota, and at this rate will be continuing for probably about two months. Perhaps I should be more selective, if not in taking photos, then at least in uploading them (if I had had more time I would have shrunk the less important ones down so that they wouldn't take so much memory.)
This is especially true as next month I will be going back to the NPC Juniors, the same event that launched this blog. I will surely take many more photos there, even better than the latest update. I may also be headed to the Chicagoland Fitness Extravaganza. So I, who have posted no no pictures to my flickr photostream since July of last year, will suddenly have an embarassing glut to deal with for the next couple of months.
In any case, this post is meant to explain the sudden large batch of unlabled, disorganized photos of muscle beach that have appeared out of the blue on my photostream. |

| Flickr Explorer |
[May. 31st, 2006|12:25 am] |
Through the magic of Flickr Scout I discovered that two of my photos are in the Flickr Explorer (a table of the top 500 or so images that come out on any given day, based on "Interestingness"). I am totally surprised by this moderate honor! All this time I had no idea. Any of you who have flickr accounts should check it out!
Anyway, this news comes just in time: I am planning on uploading a lot of new pictures very soon! |

| Sopranos |
[Apr. 26th, 2006|12:03 pm] |
Last night before bed we watched this weeks episode of the Sopranos. So this morning I had a Sopranos-based dream. Martina had apparently recovered well from losing her job at Artie's: she was moving into a new apartment. At first it looked quite small (though nicely styled), until I found the stairs. It had a huge lower level, and a basement. It was practically mansion-sized.
The episode ended with Meadow backing up her car, and crashing into Melissa Dettwiller (well, presumably her car, though you never explicitly see that). After the credits there was a personal appeal by Jamie-Lynn Sigler, the actress who plays Meadow, explaining that Melissa Dettwiller really had been in an accident (I was unclear on whether or not Jamie-Lynn had actually backed into her in real life), and so they had had to have it happen on the show as well, to explain what happened to her character. She tearfully explained that Melissa was her best friend, and that she was very upset. She said if we wanted to contribute money towards her hospital bill we could do so from Melissa's website.
My girlfriend (S.) had somehow missed this ending sequence, so I told her about it, explaining who Melissa Dettwiller was. I rewound the recording to show her some of Melissa's earlier scenes, so that S. could remind herself who she was before we watched the ending again. |
